English Translation
Possibly a patronymic from the surname Kapasis, a word that probably comes from Medieval Greek καπ(π)άτιον, a women’s head covering. In Samothracian dialect, “καπάσ',” also means the stone slab covering a chimney.
English Transliteration
Kapash
Location of Feature
Located in Paleopoli on the mountain.
Notes
SH 20250713: Αpostollos Vasdekis says he used to go hunting for partridges at Kapash with his father when he was a young boy. Big partridges (πέρδικες), which are very tasty, and hares (λαγός) are plentiful here. The partridges make a loud clucking sound (“κα κα κα κα”) at night and in the early morning (5am), which is sometimes so loud that Apostollos can hear them clucking on the mountain while he is on duty at the museum. The location of Kapash is a flat area just below the ridge of the mountain a not far from Aghios Theodoros. There are many trees, although Apostollos says he hasn’t been there in a very long time.
